Look, I love Topman as much as the next guy. But, like H&M, Zara and Uniqlo before them, sometimes they have amazing clothing, and sometimes their shit is out of control. Hypbeast has a preview today (via The Fashionisto) of the Topman Lens 2010 Spring collection. Lens is the Topman line of collaborations with up and coming designers, who now have the opportunity to give the average consumer a taste of their design aesthetic, to varying degrees of wearability. Wearability, one might think, would seem to be an important factor in a collaboration with a retailer like Topman. But, if one thinks that, then one is wrong.
Carolyn Massey, Dexter Wong, Kaspar Harup-Hansen, Mjölk, Christopher Shannon and Finnish designer Dusty have each created some pieces that come together to form a collection of wildly different perspectives. Wearing some will make people think you’re cool, put-together and fashion-forward. Others will make people think you have Asperger’s. But, how will you know the difference between the two? Fear not: I’ve gone and ahead and separated the previewed pieces into two simple categories: “Yes” and “Boooo.” See where formal shorts on adults fall, after the jump.

Sometimes in life, you make promises to yourself. You tell yourself things like, “You haven’t done any Christmas shopping yet, and you’re moving next month, and you just spent an absurd amount of money on iTunes even though you can get all of those songs for free on Hype Machine, and God knows you’re going to be spending a ton of money on booze with all of the holiday parties coming up, so let’s try to be reasonable and not buy superfluous things like a blazer made of sweatshirt material that looks like something from “The Prisoner.” But then, in some crazy coincidence, you happen to be in Topman looking for a gift for your little brother, and there right in front of your eyes is a blazer made of sweatshirt material that looks like something from “The Prisoner!” What are the odds, right?
Budgeting doesn’t really fit into embracing the Christmas spirit, anyway. More pics below. (more…)
