I knew of Swedish brand The Local Firm peripherally as one of the exhibitors at (capsule), but I revisited them after I saw this post on Selectism about these shades. I have a similar pair of Ksubis, but I like that these are a bit boxier, and almost have a 3D glasses vibe to them, which for some reason I find appealing. I don’t even mind the metal plate logo on the bridge. Even though these were part of the SS11 show, they seem to be carry-overs from this season, as they’re currently available at Blackbird. Get ‘em while you can.
I like sunglasses. A lot. And I’m aware that somewhere along the line, this blog has somehow essentially devolved into a log of sunglasses and music that I like. And even though I haven’t posted in awhile and would have preferred to kick off my first post in June with something a little more unique, I can’t help but love these beaded Lyndels from Mosley Tribes. Hypebeast tells us that each of the ceramic beads on the temples of these glasses are hand-laid, which is a nice touch that’s sure to drive up the price a bit, and I do wonder how well they’ll all stay attached after continual wear and tear. But, they’re still on my list to check out in person when they hit Oliver Peoples boutiques next month. Suede fringed jacket optional.
My fetish for sunglasses is pretty well-documented on this blog and in my bank account. Luckily for me, Cheap Monday (one of my top three favorite Swedish things behind Robyn and Fish) has a second killer line of their Clairvoyant sunglasses for only $35 a piece. The shades come in several different colorways and styles — the Clubmaster-esque Night Planner, the classic aviator shape of the Night Search, the oversized Nightwatch (above) and the unimaginatively-named Round Glasses, among them — which makes the low price point even sweeter, since you can afford to buy a few. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about downsizing my life (read: getting rid of a portion of the copious amount of clothing that has somehow made its way into my wardrobe). But, no matter how many sweaters and button-downs I can part with willingly, I can’t bring myself to get rid of any of my sunglasses. Nevermind that I more or less exclusively rotate from a selection of the same few pairs of Ray Bans, one cheapo set from Urban Outfitters and a (found!) pair of Ksubis while the others mostly sit in one of two overflowing drawers in my nightstand. I just like knowing they’re there if I need them.
Since I am on a temporary sunglasses-buying T.O., I’ve decided instead to include a mini round-up of some of my recent favorites from the current crop of new releases. See those after the jump.
In case you needed more proof that old people are having the best week ever, the eyewear upstarts at Illesteva have released the lookbook for their Summer 2010 collection and it is chock full o’ the elderly. The collection was inspired by the golden age of Havana in the 50′s, when the “Latin Las Vegas” brought in all types of high rollers for some living large in the Caribbean. Bypassing the complications of traveling to Cuba these days, the Illesteva crew instead ventured down to the famous Calle Ocho Boulevard in Miami and employed some of the domino-playing locals to model the frames. The sunglasses themselves are made from materials ranging from steel, to titanium, bamboo and acetate. And, if you’re willing to shell out $2,000, you can even get your hands on a pair of buffalo horn shades with photochromic lenses. And if you’re not? Guess you can wait until they make a collection inspired by Atlantic City.

I love everything about these limited edition sunglasses from the pros over at Super: the flat-top, the classic shape, cool design details (see the logo inside the hinge) and the genius Italian leather wrap. They go on sale tomorrow at 3:33pm CET, available through December 10 — although something tells me they’ll be long gone before then.
