A few days ago, Por Homme posted about this excellent double-breasted blazer from the in-house collection at NYC boutique OAK.  In light of my new-found appreciation for double-breasted coats, I’ve been keeping my eye out for them — and this one certainly caught it.  The single-button is a nice detail, and it looks great with just a tee underneath, illustrating the point that double-breasted jackets have become a casual option.  Take a look.

Plus, it’s unisex, so your girlfriend can get a matching version — particularly if you’d like to never have any friends.

On the Fence: Mark Ronson for Gucci

Today Gucci unveiled a few pics of the Mark Ronson-designed limited edition shoe range the DJ/producer created for the fashion house…and I’m not completely sold.

Mark Ronson x Gucci

I’m not even going to address the second shoe, because it’s pretty foul.  If you’re interested, take a look here.

As much as I like Mr. Ronson, this shoe (above) has left me with a few questions.  While boat shoes are certainly hipster-current, it’s kind of at the tail-end of the trend.  Do you really want to shell out the limited-edition Gucci prices for something that will be dated in the not-too-distant future?  Doesn’t the blue and yellow colorway kind of look like a Nike basketball shoe you can find at Champs?  And, does the world really need a high-top boat shoe?

I’ll wait until I see the rest of the line before making my final judgment on this collaboration.  But props to Mark Ronson for finding a more fruitful partnership than trying to get this back on track.

Mr. Dool Approves: The Double-Breasted Blazer

A few weeks ago, I came across a great double-breasted blazer from one of my favorite new labels, Company of We.

Picture 2

Most likely a reaction the DB’s of my youth, immortalized in the First Communion photos at my parents’ house, I’ve pretty much had a blanket policy against them since I first started dressing myself.  Turns out, that might have been a bit harsh.  The Company of We version nods to its brass-buttoned forebearers, but the slim fit downplays it stodgy past.  Worn with a t-shirt, it’s smart, but definitely on this side of casual.

Company of We isn’t the only label giving the DB another chance live outside of mafiosos and 80′s business tycoons; they’ve been featured prominently in SS 2010 collections from a whole spectrum of designers — from Alexander McQueen to Michael Bastian and everyone in between.
