Look, I love Topman as much as the next guy. But, like H&M, Zara and Uniqlo before them, sometimes they have amazing clothing, and sometimes their shit is out of control. Hypbeast has a preview today (via The Fashionisto) of the Topman Lens 2010 Spring collection. Lens is the Topman line of collaborations with up and coming designers, who now have the opportunity to give the average consumer a taste of their design aesthetic, to varying degrees of wearability. Wearability, one might think, would seem to be an important factor in a collaboration with a retailer like Topman. But, if one thinks that, then one is wrong.
Carolyn Massey, Dexter Wong, Kaspar Harup-Hansen, Mjölk, Christopher Shannon and Finnish designer Dusty have each created some pieces that come together to form a collection of wildly different perspectives. Wearing some will make people think you’re cool, put-together and fashion-forward. Others will make people think you have Asperger’s. But, how will you know the difference between the two? Fear not: I’ve gone and ahead and separated the previewed pieces into two simple categories: “Yes” and “Boooo.” See where formal shorts on adults fall, after the jump.
You can pretty much split it down the line by designer, with Carolyn Massey and Mjölk firmly in the yes and Dusty, Dexter Wong and Christopher Shannon getting some boooos from me. But, Kaspar Harup-Hansen, that rascal, has me conflicted.
YES:
BOOOO:
For the flirty mechanic in your life:
I just don’t think grown men should wear jumpsuits.
For those times when you find yourself thinking, “This would be a great opportunity to wear my rope shirt.”
Charlie Sheen’s bowling shirts x British schoolboy uniform = this:
I think OP made this shirt/short combo in 1992 and every kid named Brendan bought it.
The perfect bag for your Trapper Keeper:
So, there you go. Of course, these are just my opinions, and I applaud people willing to take risks. And risky some of these are.

i feel like the charlie sheen schoolboy blazer might have narrowly missed the booooo list had the model been wearing pants
