The Moment has a great post today about legendary photographer William Klein and his classic photography book “Rome.” Documenting the Eternal City in it’s pre-Dolce Vita days, Klein captured some deceptively simple shots of everyday life with such mastery they still brim with life over 50 years later. It must have been an amazing time to be in Rome, as the Old World charm of the city collided with a new, modern age that in some ways still eludes it to this day. With an ease and grace, Klein’s work in “Rome” is an inspiration to photographers documenting city life anywhere across the globe.

Marina and the Diamonds, the brainchild of Marina Diamandis, has had a string of innovative, off-beat videos to match her innovative, offbeat sounds. Check out “Mowgli’s Road” above, and “Obsession” and “I Am Not a Robot” after the jump.

Today Gucci unveiled a few pics of the Mark Ronson-designed limited edition shoe range the DJ/producer created for the fashion house…and I’m not completely sold.

I’m not even going to address the second shoe, because it’s pretty foul. If you’re interested, take a look here.
As much as I like Mr. Ronson, this shoe (above) has left me with a few questions. While boat shoes are certainly hipster-current, it’s kind of at the tail-end of the trend. Do you really want to shell out the limited-edition Gucci prices for something that will be dated in the not-too-distant future? Doesn’t the blue and yellow colorway kind of look like a Nike basketball shoe you can find at Champs? And, does the world really need a high-top boat shoe?
I’ll wait until I see the rest of the line before making my final judgment on this collaboration. But props to Mark Ronson for finding a more fruitful partnership than trying to get this back on track.
